Threshold Shorts!

Welcome back! After months of stop and go sewing and running, I finally have something to share. Let me introduce my first pair of Threshold Shorts!

The pattern is from Fehr Trade Patterns by Melissa Fehr (who inspires my active wear sewing dreams). The pattern is for intermediate sewers, I normally fit into the overly ambitious beginner category,  but so desperate was I for me made running shorts that I figured this was the time to learn some new skills!

The pattern pieces

I cut out the pattern on my grandmothers amazing cutting table, and pieced them together like a puzzle! This BRIGHT fabric is from the Athletic/Outdoor section of Fabric Outletvaguely labeled as "polyester." Probably more appropriate for outerwear, but hey WHY NOT?!

Back View- check out those seams!

I took them out on a test run at Tryon Park while visiting my sister in Oregon.
(Who kindly took photos while I ran the same 50 meter stretch back and forth 10 times.)

After a 45 minute hike and a 35 minute run I can say I completely forgot about them, which in my book is success. No riding up, falling down, or wedgies. What more could a girl ask for?! (Besides equal pay and rights to her own body! Am I right? Too much for a sewing blog? Let's move on!)

Anyways....
I will definitely be making more Threshold Shorts in the future!

Until next time, happy running!

Magnificent Mesh Tank Top

Hello blogosphere!

This is a blog is to record my adventures in running, sewing and the other (less sweaty) parts of life. [Look mom, I made this!]

My grandma showed me how to use a sewing machine after I requested too many outfits for my Barbie. So with minimum skill and maximum enthusiasm, I'm jumping into the world of sewing head first. Without further ado....

My Magnificent Mesh Tank Top!
Pattern: Racerback from Simone by Victory + self drafted
Fabric: Knit Mesh from StoneMountain and Daughter Fabric (1/2 off!)

After some research on sewing knit mesh I drafted my pattern and got to work. I decided on 2 layers of mesh to avoid an entirely sheer top. As soon as it looked like an actual garment I put it on and ran out the door for a test run!
(Never mind the unfinished bits...)

Test Run at the Harbor!

The fit is tight in the hips (what, I'm not a pole?!), but besides that I'm very happy with it! It was light even at my most sweaty and made me feel like a badass! After many failed selfie attempts (see below) I asked a woman to take my picture.

The woman taking my photo insisted on a close up, voila!
